Sandy Ptak, Alaska, of Anchorage,
Alaska was crowned 2008-09 Miss Czech Slovak United States, along with winning Miss Congeniality,
Alice "Fiala" Rokusek Oratory Award and Grand Talent Winner. Sandy will be a senior
at Portland State University
in Portland, Oregon. With the title Sandy
will recieve $1500 cash, $2500 towards a trip to the Czech or Slovak Republic
and a special $250 special scholarship in memory of John Rokusek and
much more. Christy Kessler, Oklahoma, of Choctaw, Oklahoma
was 1st Runner Up and Talent Runner Up. Maria Cox, Minnesota of Stillwater,
Minnesota won 2nd Runner Up. Kelissa Kersenbrock,
Kansas, of Ellsworth, Kansas
won Americanized Kroj. Shandra Korbelik, Nebraska,
of Fairmont, Nebraska won Authentic Kroj. Sarah Nutt, Wisconsin
of Phillips, Wisconsin received the Spirit of Czech/Slovak
Heritage award. Olivia Buydos, Ohio, of Seven Hills,
Ohio received the Sokol talent routine award.
Sandy Ptak of Anchorage Alaska is the new 2008-09 Miss Czech Slovak
United States. Sandy
is the daughter of Peter and Olga Ptak. She is will be a senior in the fall at Portland
State University, double majoring in Business Management
and Marketing. Sandy was an outstanding candidate for the pageant. She will be
a great ambassador for the Czech and Slovak communities of the USA.
Sandy not only was the overall title, she was the Grand Talent Winner, Miss Congeniality
and won the Oratory Award. For Sandy’s talent she sang, in Czech, “I
Drove All Night” by Celine Dion. Sandy is a first generation American. She
is fluent in Czech, English and intermediate Spanish. In her spare time she enjoys horseback riding, reading about history
and traveling. Sandy is the first contestant to ever represent Alaska.
